Some ancient hand lettering design I did back in the 1980’s and 90’s…
Back before computers were everywhere, I worked with some businesses to develop a graphic identity for their vehicles, printing, etc. I may have saved the logo design graphics somewhere, if I find them I’ll add photos to this post. Bouncy scripts incorporated into graphics have a unique eye-catching flow to them.
This one – Bay View Plumbing in Redondo Beach CA, was a classic sign painter design that ended up in all their printed pieces, on the vans, magnetic signs, the awning over the office, and who knows where else!
Another plumbing business I designed lettering for – I believe this was the first of a series of plumbing businesses because of referrals – is this one in Torrance CA.
This logo has been used by Discount Pool & Spa Supply in Lomita CA for many years. This was the first van I did for them…

A couple of projects of note completed this last week – hand-painted cost-effective graphics on a refurbished monument sign for the wonderful people at Saint Peter the Apostle Church in Pomona CA.
Then, these etch-look vinyl privacy / safety graphics were installed on large plate glass windows in the Colliers Los Angeles offices.
Here are Colliers logos on the glass wall between the reception area and conference room. This is a good use of etch vinyl simply for safety and a bit of privacy, while helping with branding.
Productive week!
In Irvine, CA – this is the Alton Marketplace in the Irvine Spectrum.
The building is 648 feet on the long portion, 221 feet on the side portion, and 30 feet high. We were given the task of painting this graphic pattern on both portions in a very bright, eye-catching array of colors. This will be accented in the near future with a pair of channel letter signs to read “Alton Marketplace – Irvine Spectrum”.

Big City provided award logos for a couple of Southern California schools this week. We offer our congratulations and gratitude for allowing Big City to help celebrate these awards!
First: Clegg Elementary School – Huntington Beach CA
Next: Cope Middle School – Redlands CA
Over the years there have been a good number of requests for office / reception area logos and signs. If you want to make a good first impression in visitors to your organization’s offices, there are not many better places to start.
Here are a few examples:
Large facility like universities need to make it clear where various offices are. Here is some of the work we did for California Baptist University in Riverside, CA
A corporate (or branch) office needs to make an impression, of course – like this Colliers International office we provided office signage for in Encino CA.
Medical offices convey the professionalism of their office and services with professionally designed and produced office signage. Here is work we did for Brain and Spine Institute in Irvine CA.
This signage included the ADA door plaque shown to the right of the entry door.
Just one more… a corporate conference room. This was a fun design created by the client – Customfab in Garden Grove CA (a contract manufacturing company) – they wanted to create a bit of privacy for the clear glass doors off the main foyer, so they made a pattern of graphics representing their services. The pattern was cut in etch-look vinyl material leaving the majority of the glass appearing frosted. We also created and applied a vinyl branding band and graphics around the inside of the room.
So I have to ask – what would you like in your offices in 2018?
