Recent school mural project – Claremont High School

Over on the sign painting side of things – a mural painted on the interior walls of this High School gym…

Gym graphics were the project at hand recently – this time, all four interior walls of this gym at Claremont High School in Los Angeles County, CA. Our design included shadowy wolves staring down this school’s sportsĀ competition!

First, photos of the finished product. Then,Ā some progress photos below.

This old gym had existing graphics that were painted around 2007. These photos show how the old graphics began disappearing under new paint:

Next: the focal point, whichĀ I ended up calling ā€œWolf Hillā€:

Note the conduits / ducts that were unavoidable. My job is to make them disappear! Painting over these with care to continue the lines of the surrounding graphics requires an enormous amount of extra work to do, but the result is they ā€œdisappearā€ in the final product.

It started, as always, with a design drawing (below). It ended with more than 15 gallons of paint applied with much care to the…

Recent school mural project – Gabrielino High School

A hand-painted school mural project recently, over on the sign painting side of Big City Signs. Here is how it went…

Sign Painter for San Diego - Orange County - Los Angeles - Southern California - Sign Painting - Mural Painting - Big City Supergraphics

Big City was recently given the task of designing and hand paintingĀ school murals at four locations around the campus of Gabrielino High School in San Gabriel, near Los Angeles, in Southern California.

Here is how it went:

First, along with the paper patterns, I usually produce scale printouts at a fairly large size — it’s so much easier to know where things are supposed to go when you’re close to the wall. Sometimes it’s even dangerous to try to step back to see if it looks right!

Then, on to the school. First was this track shed. Here are a couple of progress shots:

Next, the stadium press booth. This was to get painted graphics, then dimensional brushed silver letters installed over the painted portion. The idea was to make a big impression for the school.Ā Here are a couple of progress shots:

Recent work – progress of a school mural

Here’s a school mural project done recently over on the hand painted graphics side of the company. Take a look!

Sign Painter for San Diego - Orange County - Los Angeles - Southern California - Sign Painting - Mural Painting - Big City Supergraphics

Big City provided a school mascot mural recently for Hutchinson Middle School in La Mirada, near Los Angeles in southern California. The client wanted their mascot, the hawk, hand painted in a very large graphic, or what we call supergraphics, making a very impactful impression. (I speculated that they thought about using it for discipline – they could threaten to feed unruly children to it, but that’s just my odd way of thinking…)

The project started in the shop – after settling on a design, a photo was traced to create the 12 colors that wouldĀ be used. That electronic file in vector format could then be drawn out on the plotter to create the paper pattern for transferring the design.
